After a 12 year hiatus KLM Royal Dutch Airlines returns to Calgary on May 3, 2009. Non-stop flights to Amsterdam will operate 5 times weekly. The flights will be operated with an Airbus A330-200 with 30 World Business Class seats and 221 seats in Economy Class. It will offer connections to more then 65 desitnations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

According to Hans de Roos, Senior Vice President Strategy and Corporate Development for KLM they would ultimately like to make the flight daily as soon as they can should the market conditions allow for it.

The annoucement comes on the heels of the Open Skies agreement announced today between Canada and the European Union which comes as a blessing to airlines like KLM, and SkyTeam partner Air France
to expand services to Canada.

The KLM flight marks the first international SkyTeam service to Calgary (Continental, Delta and Northwest do serve the U.S. market) and will allow members of all the SkyTeam programs to earn and redeem miles for this new flight.
