Over the past few years we've seen many credit card welcome offers evolve to where they require more time and more spend to achieve the entire welcome bonus. This trend has made it harder for cardholders and cardmembers to be able to use those points to start jetting off or staying somewhere away from home within a shorter period of time.
The good news is there are still a decent number of credit card offers out there that have not followed the trend of drawing out the bonus (Well, at least with part of their bonus offers) and will provide new cardholders the opportunity to start using the points earned from the welcome offer within 3 months of being approved, if not sooner!.
So if you are someone wanting to get away sooner than later with discounted or even free travel, you've come to the right place. This is RWRDS Canada's look at some of the easier to earn welcome bonus offers that are significant* enough to get you on a plane, in a hotel, sailing away on a cruise ship or putting a dent in any other travel costs within three months of being approved for a card.
Primary criteria for this feature: Consumer cards offering $300 or more in travel value within the first 3 months
* we are considering $300 or more of travel value within 3 months of getting a card to be significant and does not include the points or miles earned on the actual card spend nor does it take into account annual fees. Just a straight bottom line look at enough points that you can be using for travel!
The number of points and value of those points are based on the portion of the welcome bonus offer that is awarded by the 3 month mark. Some of these cards have additional welcome bonus points that are awarded at 4, 6, or 12 months or later that will help fund future travels! The cards are listed in order of highest to lowest potential value.
When you spend $7,500 or more within the first three months on the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card you will receive 60,000 Aeroplan Points. You do not have to wait the entire three months to get the bonus should you complete the minimum spending requirement sooner.

The current welcome bonus on the card also includes an additional 40,000 points after you spend a total of $45,000 on your Card in your first 12 months of Cardmembershipp and 30,000 points when you make a purchase between 15 and 17 months of Cardmembership for an overall welcome bonus total of 130,000 Aeroplan Points. We do need to heed a word of caution to the readers of this feature - this is a snapshot of getting a quick injection of points and miles via credit card welcome bonuses that can be used to travel sooner than later. One should also take into account many more factors than what is shown above when selecting a credit card. When deciding on a card you should also look at the longer term of holding onto the card (or not ) which includes researching the value of earning and redeeming on your everyday spending after earning the welcome bonus, the benefits and insurance offered on the cards and more.
The good news is, the majority of the cards listed above are what RWRDS Canada considers as "keeper cards" in that they provide good to really good value for your everyday spending (with the weakest being the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card), and good to very good benefits and insurance coverage.
